Another day, another calorie...
I've been eating Low Carb / Gluten Free / Paleo / Clean for 24 days. I was working out the first two weeks of the months, but then THIS happened last Tuesday and on Thursday I came down with a head cold that has really brought me to a stand still. There's nothing worse than being injured and being sick! Sigh...
This week for #WLW, the theme is APPS. What apps are we using to help us track our weight loss, our calories, and our exercise. These are the apps that I've used.
During August, I started using "MyFitnessPal" (free). It was useful to track and watch what I ate, but I found it to get more and more cumbersome. Maybe I wasn't using it correctly, but I found it hard to input my "strange" lunches and snacks. For example, my Paleo Ice Cream... I wouldn't know where to begin logging a scoop of that! And, I walk a lot. There is no place to log my steps for the day. It wants a speed and calorie burn :(
I don't weigh or measure my servings and that might be my problem, but I just found it hard to keep up with. I think it's great for all the pre-packaged meals that are in the database, but I just didn't have time to maintain it.
I've been using "ZipList" (free) to mark all my recipes. I have a folder just for my everyday eating and a folder for my blog recipes. I'm loving it! It's very convenient to have my shopping list and recipes ready to go on my phone.
Over the Spring I was trying to work up to a 5k program. On the "Ease into 5K" (paid) and "Zombies 5K" (paid), I soon gave up. I found that I liked to run and walk at my own pace and distance. Once I stopped following the prompts I found I went faster all on my own.
And that's when "Map My Run" (free) was downloaded. I like that it shows speed, distance, and calories burned. I could upgrade for $30 and get a Heart Rate Monitor, but I'm holding off on that for now.
Since I usually run a lap around a local park, I use my Clock and set it to stopwatch. Then I punch the lap button when I complete a lap. You can see above, that each lap got a little slower as I went... But I kept going for 3 miles :)
Here's where the whining comes....
I haven't lost a single pound yet in September!
I am so depressed.
I lost three pounds in August when I was "testing the waters" and that had me really excited. I thought I would drop pounds a bit quicker....
Maybe I need to eat less fruit? I may have an apple and some grapes during the day. I've taken a liking to dates and have two or three for a snack. Maybe I need to up my workouts? In October I'm planning on adding three 30-day Challenges. Care to join me?
In the past 10 days, I've cut way back on nuts. I read this article and it explained a lot of stuff. Since I switched to almond milk and flour and was snacking on a lot of nuts, I was having an autoimmune issue flare up and it was no fun. I've got it back under control now by eliminating the nuts. Crazy, isn't it?
This snack I made has Almonds... but, I think that if I just have 2 a day, I'm not over stressing by system.
These yummy bites are made with dates, cherries, almonds, and cocoa. I also added in a few mini dark chocolate chips.
They were a perfect mid-afternoon snack that I threw into my purse when I had to go out for a few hours. I wasn't worried about going hungry for the afternoon.
Date and Cherry Paleo Treats
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Keywords: no-bake raw gluten-free low-carb vegan almond cherry date
Ingredients (serves 18)
- 1 C Almonds
- 6 - 10 Dates
- 1 tsp Vanilla
- 2 Tbls Cocoa Powder
- 1/3 C Dried Cherries
- 1 Tbsp Mini Chocolate Chips (optional)
Add the almonds to a food processor and chop.
Add in 6 dates and pulse.
Add Vanilla, cocoa powder, and cherries and pulse until combined. Check the "stickiness" of the batter by pinching it to see if it holds the shape. Add more dates as needed to get the batter to hold together.
Add in the chocolate chips, if desired.
Measure out 1 tablespoon of batter and squeeze in your hand to shape. It'll take some pressing, but it should stick together. If it's still not sticky enough, add another date.
I added a cherry to the center of the snacks for a little extra flavor.
