Hi all! A big thank you to Karyn for inviting me to guest post on her blog again! My name is Andrea, and together my husband Chad and I own Wild Bean Vanilla Company

When Karyn invited me to guest blog again, she suggested I demonstrate something with vanilla beans. In addition to making your own vanilla extract, there are other food items that you can infuse with vanilla beans. I have recipes for vanilla honey and vanilla salt pinned on my Pinterest board, but the most fun one, I think is vanilla sugar! It’s quite a simple recipe to make, and very versatile!

    Ingredients:

    • 1 vanilla bean of your choice (I prefer Madagascar for this recipe, but choose your favorite!)
    • 1 C. granulated sugar

    Directions:

    1. Slice vanilla bean lengthwise, and scrape out seeds.
    2. In food processor, combine sugar and seed scrapings, then process.
    3. Store in airtight container. For maximum flavor, let it sit for 1-2 weeks, but you could use this right away if you’d like!

So what to use it on? My favorite thing is using it in my coffee, but you could also try sprinkling it on top of fruit, substituting it in recipes for regular sugar, or using it with hot cocoa or hot vanilla! Thank you again Karyn, I hope you all have fun with this simple recipe!

Thanks for the post, Andrea! I hope everyone enjoys a bit of extra Vanilla in their sweets! If you’re looking for some Vanilla Beans and Extracts, check out her great bulk prices!

    1. I've always done this and it makes such a difference. I actually cheat and use the inside of the vanilla bean in a recipe and then just put the bean in my sugar canister. It infuses the sugar with a hint of vanilla that smells delicious and gives baked goods an extra oomph of flavor.

    2. Thanks for the directions! I thought you just put the bean in the sugar and let it sit for a couple of weeks, LOL! I didn't know you were supposed to use the food processor. I"ll bet my next batch will be much better.
