Merry Christmas from Hawaii

Mele Kalikimaka!
Merry Christmas!

My Daughter and I have been in Kona, Hawaii since Dec 10th!
I grew up on Oahu and moved away when I started college. The last time I celebrated Christmas with my mom was in 1995 (I think). So, this is my daughter's first Christmas in Hawaii with her Gramma and Papa! She's a very lucky girl to have been to Hawaii before, just not for Christmas.

Here she is at the Airport getting ready to leave the cold and nasty East Coast weather for the warm Hawaiian sunshine! It's a long trip to the West coast and then on to the islands, but once you get there, it's so worth it!

These are some beautiful Hawaiian flowers that are growing in my Mom's yard. She doesn't have a very green thumb, but she has some beautiful flowers!

We both got Henna Tattoo's again this visit! I secretly WANT a tattoo, but I'm way too chicken to deal with the pain of getting a tattoo. AND... I just can't commit to a design - FOR LIFE!
So for now, I just indulge in a henna stain when I visit Kona.
I got the Jellyfish on my ankle and my daughter got Squirt from "Finding Nemo" on her leg.

What would a trip to Hawaii be without a few visits to the beach? Some days were better than others, but a crappy day at the beach is better than the cold back home...

We saw some wild life! Some in the wild, some in not so wild "containment", but it was still pretty cool!
The sea turtles were at the beach we were swimming at. They were just warming up in the sun and waiting for the tide to come back up.
The Dolphins were at the Hilton Waikaloa! I was very fortunate as a kid to swim with the dolphins and interact with them. Today, with the $250 price tag, my daughter was not so lucky. Maybe next visit, Sweetie. Sorry!

But the Seahorses were pretty cool! And she could interact with them!
In fact, we all got to interact with them! It was neat to see all the babies and learn about the MALES giving birth. As I understand it, the male seahorses gestate for 30 days and then give birth in less than 2 minutes to about 500 babies. Then, they get a few minutes to "rest" before the ladies give them another 500 eggs to gestate.

I also, got to go snorkeling with my Uncle who was also visiting. I got to use my VERY expensive, underwater camera for THIS one and only dive because it then committed suicide and didn't work again :( Total Bummer!
I went Zip Lining! It was so much fun! Ziping, repelling, and some fun bridges to cross!
Does it look like I had fun?!?!?! Let me say it again - I had a BLAST!

And, since it is Christmas, some sugar cookies HAD to be made and decorated! It was a great time with Gramma!
My brother flew over to Kona from Honolulu and spent some time with us. My daughter loves playing with her Uncle! AND he gave her some pretty awesome Christmas presents! My daughter officially has a sh*tload of Lalaloopsy Dolls! I'm not exaggerating! Thanks, Uncle!

However, Christmas is not about a great vacation; It's about family. The only thing that could make this Christmas even better, is to have my Husband with us. He was unable to join us on this vacation. He was working over the holiday, so we plan on having our own Christmas with his family next week. Our lucky daughter gets two Christmas' with all of her grandparents!

Mele Kalikimaka from my family to yours!
Love, the Pint Sized Baker
